What to Wear Until Summer Really Begins
I can’t emphasize enough the importance of simplicity and how to put together a wardrobe that offers you just that with a major dash of style mixed in. I find that climate is very important in deciding what’s best to wear and the weather right now is still somewhat in-between — at least in the upper Midwest. Some days are warm, even hot, and some are still quite cool. Getting dressed can be toughest in this type of weather. It’s too warm for tights and boots but not quite warm enough for summer looks.
All you need is a great trench, a simple dress, sandals or shoes that are not too summery, but aren’t heavy and wintery feeling, and for going out a great pair of jeans and a cute top. These outfits can take you from late April to mid-June and beyond and once the heat of summer has died down and you’re again between seasons, these pieces will continue to serve you well.
If you already own a classic khaki trench, why not try something different. The purple check is a Burberry and is available at Bergdorfgoodman, com or the black jacket is a Nanette Lepore. (Check out my blog from March 2009 on trenches and my piece earlier this month on Nanette Lepore.)
The black dress pictured above is by Nicole Miller and can go from work to date to special event. Simply change your accessories i.e. pearls for special event, great hoop earrings for a date with strappy sandals and for work, pumps and a cardigan.
I purchased these shoes from Nine West (on sale now for about $49 and look for coupons). They are perfect for cooler days and work well with skirts, pants, tights (for colder weather) and with leggings.
