Elements of A Wardrobe: What you REALLY Need Right Now!

Now that Spring has really, just about truly arrived in Chicago (elswhere you have probably been enjoying Spring for over a month by this point), let’s figure out what you really need for the warmer months.

1. A great everday/going-out dress.  This can be one piece, like that awesome black dress above, which can go from the office (just layer it with a cardigan or jacket) to a party (add a necklace, bracelets or great earrings to “up the look”).  It doesn’t have to be black but certainly a black dress can be worn again and again and no one will ever know by just tweaking it with various accessories or layers. Check out Theory dresses for simple looks like the one above, or toryburch.com, and, of course, Diane Von Furstenberg has some great easy-to-wear, day into night dresses.

2. A fantastic pair of neutral sandals.  I LOVE the look of a skin-toned sandal against the leg.  It just creates a great lean, leg-lengthening look and goes with every color of dress or pant.  The shoe pictured above is by Miu Miu (available at Barneys New York) but there are tons of great sandals with similar looks at every price range this season.

3. A cute and comfortable weekend/casual outfit.  So, you get asked to go flea market shopping one Sunday or out for brunch another day or maybe you’re just going to take a walk around the Botanic Gardens.  Do you need to go looking like a slob?  No!  And, you don’t need to compromise comfort.  Get a swingy dress or a cute bohemain top and khaki pants, shorts or capris, add a jean jacket if it’s cool out and some fun sandals — they can defintiely be flats — and you’re on your way.  And, if that walk in the park extends to a movie or early dinner, you’re ready to go, looking just great! (The outfit above is by Marc by Marc Jacobs, find it at saks.com.)
