LOOK OF THE WEEK: FRINGE, CLOGS AND LONG CARDIGANS
Here are three great items that I continue to love — and have loved for over 30 years — long sweaters, hippy fringey stuff and clogs.
Recently, I have really loved cropped everything, including cardigans. But I have returned to my former love of longer-styled cardigans, especially worn over shorter simple dresses or with jeans for a comfy, casual look. Here are a few longer cardigans — all available online — that I like.
Starting with the beige long cardigan on the left, this one is from Banana Repulic and retails for $69.99 (watch for sales and offers online to reduce the pricing). I like the look over a dress as shown and it would also look great over a white tee and with jeans, or pants. The second look from the left has that nice comfy appeal — this is a great casual look that still has some sexiness to it. This medium grey cardigan is available at macys.com for $40.
The longer, light grey cardigan (second from the right) is from shopbop.com and retals for $245. What a great way to tone down a dressier look or for a work day outfit that’s not too stuffy. The last cardign, far right, is a Vince — known for their sweaters and higher prices. It retails for $325. The quality is nice but you can probably replicate this look for far less with some of the choices shown here. Check out bananarepublic.com — they really have many choices in longer cardigans.
So why do Ilike fringe??? I actually have liked a bit of fringe since the 70′s when it was around in abundance. I own a very hip, fringe collar necklace that I love to wear with a sleeveless, black dress, brown thigh-high boots and a yellow long cardigan(!)… Here are a few great examples of fringey stuff I found online. Just remember — only one piece of fringe at a time and, when wearing any fringe, keep the rest of your accessories to a minimum.
From left, fringe necklace at net-a-porter.com, sells for $280. Ann Taylor (who knew Ann could be so hip?) black, fringe sandals for $139. Cynthia Vincent metallic grey, fringe sandals for $199 at Lord &Taylor and a very hippy, fringe purse from shopbop.com for $220.
You take your most comfy jeans, add a white t-shirt, a long cardigan in cream, black or a bright hue of yellow, slip into your high-heeled clogs and pick-up your fringed bag and you are ready and set for a great day off!
Clogs in the top row: From left, Forentini and Baker at Barneys New York for $420, jshoes at endless.com for $124 and the bryce clog from Tory Burch for $250 (toryburch.com). Bottom row from the left: Robert Clergerie (one of my very favorite shoe designers of all time) at zapposcouture.com for $305 and Gucci’s clog for $745 (they are hot!) available at gucci.com.
