Look of the Week: BOLD COLOR
We are all very comfortable in muted or dark tones. Who doesn’t own a favorite go-to black dress? A grey suit, perhaps, or is it navy? And I will never give up my LBD’s — they are my favorite pieces for day and night. However, there is something to be said for bright, beautiful colors. The red sleeveless dress above is one of this season’s Diane Von Furstenberg’s easy-to-wear dresses in poppy. It is available on the dvf.com website for about $365. I love it! It will look great on many a body type and it will draw just the right amount of positive attention. The other red dress is also by Diane and quite lovely, as well.
I am mad about the Rebecca Taylor strapless purple dress, retailing for $275. It is also available in a teal blue color. Another very flattering dress for most body types. Find it at saks, neimans or shopbop.com. The purple purse is a marc by marc jacobs and sells for $450ish. It’s a great color to add to a black, navy or grey suit and still keep your professional look intact.
The two blue shoes above are beauties, as well. The darker blue shoe is a chloe and can be found at saksfifthavenue.com and the blue and white, cork-bottomed shoe is a Brian Atwood — oh boy, these are lovely and retail for about $800 (sigh)…
The necklace is a Stephen Dweck and is a great combination of coral and turquoise. Add this to a white t-shirt and you’ll look simply fabulous.
And while you’re adding a bit of color to your wardrobe this spring, add some pattern, as well. As long as it’s flattering and pleasing to the eye. This Moschino cheap and chic dress, below, is so lovely and is available at netaporter.com. The purse to the left is from Betsey Johnson and sells for under $100 and the purple, flowered purse is available at anthropologie.com for $248. I do love flowery patterns!
If you’re color shy but still want to change things up a bit, try a toywatch. They come in many bright shades and retail for $195. I love both the purple and the orange.
Last spring I purchased a tory burch yellow cardigan that I have worn countless times. It looks great over a black dress, purple dress, with a t-shirt and jeans, with khakis. It is such a beautiful color. These four cardigans below are all available online. Even if yellow isn’t “your color” — try one on and you’ll be suprised how flattering a color it can be. From left, vince cardigan at nordstroms for $265, juicy couture for about $145, banana republic for $59 and a Splendid open cardigan for $64.
If green is your thing, this Milly dress just went on sale for $364 at revolveclothing.com. It’s got that preppy meets pretty meets modern lady thing going all in one. It is also available at full price at netaporter.com in black and white.
And, if you’re looking for a way to rev up some jeans or pants, or even to add some pizazz over a dress, check out this nanette lepore little red jacket. Great fit and so adorable. It retails for about $425 and is available at saks online.
If you really want to add some color but don’t want to spend much at all, try these lilac platform shoes from electricboutique.com. They sell for less than $50 and would add some kick to a simple dress in any color!
