Your Personal Fashion Consultant Says…
My fashion advice for today is to read top fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, look at the fashion shows on style.com and get to know what you fnd attractive and appealing. Then, browse through magazines such as In Style and Lucky, read through store catalogues and online shopping sites to find similar looks at lower price tags.
For example, I am really excited by this spring’s offerings of strappy, leather sandles that are reminiscent of shoes my sister and I adored as young girls called huarache sandals. Huarache sandals were such a cool look in the 70s — we wore them all the time and they gave an outfit a bohemian, artsy flair. Today’s versions are different but I’ve picked out a few to showcase at various prices.
Here’s a Tory Burch wedge-heeled huarache, available at her website, toryburch.com. It retails for $310. The silver metallic huarache, pictured at the top is also a Tory Burch shoe and retails for $250 (available in Neiman Marcus stores and on her website).
This is also a Tory Burch, available in gold metallic or silver at neimanmarcus.com for about $300. I think Tory has the same fashion memories as my sister and I do and has recreated this shoe in three fabulous ways. I love the mid-height heel because it’s very much like the ones I remember except more upscale and less “earthy”.

As I looked for less expensive options, I discoverd Jessica Simpson’s $89 version, available on her website, jessicasimpsoncollection.com. A lot of the styles I’ve seen are similar to Jessica’s, with a platform heel that still retain that huarache styling on top. Stuart Weitzman has some coming out in the $300 range as well.
Bakers shoes also carry a wedge version of the huarche for $59 called Babe. It comes in many colors. Here’s the beige:
And, guess what!? The original huaraches are still available. Pictured above is the classic huarache from travelsmith.com, now priced at $59. They come in a rainbow of colors and they have men’s versions, as well.
Check out Nine West and Bakers for incredible “copies” of other higher end shoes. You will be pleasantly surprised to find many styles that are recreated for a fraction of the cost.
As you look through magazines and watch style shows, realize that many of the beautiful styles that you like are available in your price range. You just have to know where to look.
And, most importantly, remember to listen to your personal fashion constultant and enjoy!
