Best Dressed (or is it Stressed???)

Quirky, Sophisticated, Boho-Chic?  Which look do you prefer?  Maybe all three…

Fashion is so subjective.  I feel for the Hollywood elite (okay, not really); they are forever being chastised for everything they wear.  And, of course, opinions on what looks right vary from person to person. The paparazzi and the talk show hosts are way too critical of the stars and what they wear.  What you like often depends on how much fashion you’ve exposed yourself to – the eye begins to get used to certain looks and begins to uncover the beauty in what it once felt was strange and even unattractive.

See style.com for a run through on Award Ceremony dresses that bring onslaughts of love, hate and all emotions in-between:

So, who do you trust when making choices for yourself?  Well, your mother won’t usually steer you in the wrong direction because she’ll always want you to look good.  But mothers are from different generations and that can make a lot of difference when it comes to fashion sensibility and taste.  Girlfriends can be catty or overly critical — they don’t mean to be, it just comes with the territory.  I never like to to shop with a friend because I know what I like and how I’m going to fix something up when I get it home — my friends don’t usually have the same vision.  Also, if I do find something I love, my friends usually want to get it too.  I don’t mind that once in awhile, but often I like to keep my look somewhat unique.

Get yourself a great fashion stylist, shopping consultant or -at the very least- a salewoman who isn’t pushing purcahses on you to fatten her paycheck, who you really trust to be honest.  I always ask the salesgirl even if I don’t trust her to be sincere.  Watch their faces when they answer and usually you can decipher what they really think about your rear end in those jeans…

Call or email me at anytime with photos, questions and fashion queries of any kind.  I’ll always let you know what I think.  But, remember, fashion is subjective.  If you love something and love the way you look and feel in it — weart it and stop worrying what others may think.  Their mothers are just giving them lousy advice anyway!
