Who Do You Want to be Today? Check all that apply…

Your clothing can accomplish a lot on your behalf or it can fail.  When working with my shopping clients, I always ask them these questions: What do you want to convey about yourself?  What adjectives desribe who you are, who or how you want others to see you?

It’s not about a set of rules that will make one look just right and fit in like a cog in a machine of plainness.  Dressing properly and comfortably is about finding exactly who you want to be and expressing that to others.  If you can achieve this, you will wear your clothing just like a second skin, instead of having your clothing feel like an armored suit.

Getting dressed is as much about drama, role playing and fantasy as it is about comfort, coverage and modesty.  Adam and Eve were happy being naked in the Garden of Eden but once they realized their immodesty (or were stripped of their naivete) they quickly ran for coverage.  Hence, clothing became a method for hiding one’s true self, for covering our sexuality and the shame of our humaness.

But clothing is way more than a way to cover up.  Getting dressed is a daily form of self-expression, a way to show how we wish to be seen, who we want to believe we are and a tool for highlighting our assets and for covering our flaws — when done properly, that is!

 Do you see yourself as:

_ classic, conservative and responsible

- youthful, energetic, free-sprited

_ sexy, powerful and in control

_romantic, idealiistic, sensitive

_intelligent, straight-forward, modern

_ athletic, healthy, earhty

Or, any combination of the adjectives listed above and a thousand more that I could list??

Here I am on my way to my job as a non-profit executive.  I wanted to convey a sense that I am a responsible, intelligent, creative person.  Did I succeed?  I felt great in that outfit (simple black cotton/linen dress with genuine tuquoise buttons at the hips, black Prada bag and high wedge, Prada sandals) and I knew I could meet anyone with it on, speak at a meeting, attend a lunch and still feel fresh and pulled together all day.

Contact me to get you started so that you can figure out who you want to be each and every day!
