Thigh-High (or Over-the-Knee) Boots for Fall 2008

I have always loved thigh- high boots and own a couple of pairs already.  One pair I bought on sale from Neimans a couple of years ago – Christian Diors – that are fabulous, motorcycle/cowboy style boots with a great heel in a deep saddle color.  I was thrilled to find that Victoria’s Secret carries a decent copy of this boot in black.  Check them out!

But there are so many thigh-high choices this year, it’s making me dizzy.  This is a look that, to me, can add excitement, sexiness and chiness to an outfit instantly.  But you have to do it right.  Simple dresses, simple accessories, toned-down make-up are all necessary or you risk cheapening your look.  I love thigh-highs with shorter dresses; I’v never been a fan of the skirt and boot look where there’s a really large gap of leg space between the two.  I have always felt that no one gained anything but choppiness and sloppiness when this occurred.  Thigh-highs fix that problem instantly.

Here’s a gorgeous pair, but sadly seem to be sold out, by Halston.  The suede gives them a softer appeal and the tight fit make them so flattering.

I love low-heeled ones for a casual look.  Like these Stuart Weitzmans — they are available at zappos.com and retail for $535.  They are simple, perfect, well-made and worth the price:

Another pair by Stuart Weitzman — also available at zappos.com are low-heeled and in brown.  A couple of stunning pairs of thigh-high boots can be ordered through neimanmarcus.com.  They are Manolo Blahnik’s and sell for a whopping $1,695. But they are gorgeousand Stella McCartney’s faux leather boots for about $900, also at Neiman’s (Below).

Just remember to pair these boots with simple dresses and not a lot of overt sexiness or you’ll end up cheapening your look.

Check out electricboutique.com for more platform styles as well.
