I Feel Lucky Because I Love My Bike

Middle-aged men may have their mistresses and their sports cars, I have a new pink bike that has given me my youth back!  I bought my Electra Townie about a month ago and I cannot get enough of riding around town on it.  Everyone stops me to tell me how cute my bike is… do they do that when they see Mr. 50-year old with his bombshell?  I bet not.

It’s defnitely ironic how when everyone feels that a car is the ultimate source of freedom, especially for a young adult.  When real freedom is not having to get into a car at all.  I have never, NEVER, liked driving.  I’d rather take a train, ride a bus or grab a cab to get around.  Let someone else deal with the traffic, the sitting-at-lights, the angry fellow drivers.  Frankly, I’d rather read or do my crossword puzzle.

My bike, however, has made me feel young again.  I ride around with my bell to warn others as I approach and I am ten years old, all over again.  Now, that’s freedom!  I even got my 14 year old son to admit that riding around is fun.  He lights up when I ask if he’d like to go for a ride with me…and that’s worth the price of the ticket.
