Hip Leather Jackets For Fall

I have always loved chic, small-fitting leather jackets.  I like a biker styled jacket or a bomber jacket when coupled with a feminine dress or classic pants, so that the look doesn’t become too “hard” or costumey.  I own a gorgeous black, shiny leather jacket with long sleeves purchased many years ago that I put with everything.  It always looks great.  This year,  I’d love to find a more motorcycle styled one and I’d really love it to have short or 3/4 length sleeves.  I went on the web and found some possibilities.

The Papa of all hip leather designers is surely Rick Owens.  The coolest, chicest and most urban, futuristic clothing can be yours, but at a high price.  This in is a shearling bomber and how perfect this piece would be over a flowing, flowery dress for fall… Oy.  So, I offer this as a first selection, spotted at net-a-porter.com (see my blog, Websites to Browse) Lest you be tempted, it’s $2,700and it’s a beauty.   Rick Owens is the Chanel of the 21st century as far as I’m concerned.

This jacket is from Ami Ami, a local shop in Deerfield, Illinois but available online at amiami.com.  The jacket retails for $1,118 (not cheap) but it’s simple, chic and can be worn over just about anything, i.e. dresses, skirts, pants.

Great short-sleeved bomber jacket Okay, this is almost what I was looking for.  A great short-sleeved, black leather, bomber-style jacket.  You can find this one at Tobi.com for $594.  It’s the Hendrix jacket by Jameson.  I really like it but decided it would be too long for my short frame.

A great cropped jacket from Bebe Design Lab, see bebe.com.  This jacket is real leather, comes in black and an interesting purple color and retails for $249.  It doesn’t have the shorter sleeves that I am seeking but may be worth buying at this price and having my tailor shorten the sleeves for me.  I could see this jacket over some of my simple dresses and more flowy ones, as well.  It’s got that tough vibe but yet is short enough and simple enough to not feel overpowering.

And, for those of you tempted to purchase but not willing to commit, try Target for a faux leather bomber.  I tried it on at my local store and found it to be a bit too big for my frame but on the right body, it’s a great alternative to the real thing (it’s a decent fake…anyway, who cares if it’s real or not, it looks good!) and at $29.99 you don’t have to spend any sleep time worrying over it.
